What is Linux?
Linux is an open-source replacement for the Unix operating system.
- Originally developed by Linus Torvalds and released on the Internet in 1991
- Developed, tested, and used by millions
- Very stable, very secure
- Supported by major hardware vendors (such as IBM, HP, and SGI) and (major software vendors such as IBM and Oracle) since the late 90s
